About  Me

My name is Dr Papori Barua.

I was born in Assam, India, and moved to Perth in 2007 with my husband. In 2013 we found our home in Success. For the last 10 years, I am a resident of Success Eastward, and I love living here.

As a migrant, I value multiculturalism and nurture unity in diversity in Australia.

I completed my Master of Science in Biotechnology from India and have a diploma in Environmental Law. I persued my PhD in Biosecurity from The University of Western Australia. I have 16 years of experience in research and biosecurity, policies, plant health & risk management, and project management.

I started my career in Perth as a kitchen hand and crew at McDonald's.

I am an advocate of women’s safety and economic independence. I was the Founding Chairperson of the Women’s Wing of ISWA, wherein I Initiated women's job readiness programs, skill improvement programs, software training classes, free First Aid classes, swimming classes, etc.; organized Domestic violence Awareness breakfast sessions, helped the DV victims with mental support.

I value ethics and integrity and I want to contribute towards building a safe, connected, and inclusive community.

I have been volunteering for over 15 years and am committed to our local community. I can present to, engage with and facilitate diverse groups and ask the right questions to clearly identify problems and be an approachable community worker connected with real people, and real issues.

In the past two years, during the COVID -19 pandemic, I closely worked with the local community and with international students assisting many community members, particularly students and women in distress due to pandemic and family violence issues.
